In "The Holiday" Gram spends all of his time, trying to win over Amanda. At first they both agree not to fall in love with each other, but as time goes by, it seems that he does want her and slowly he starts trying to get her to feel the same way. Each women slowly starts to have feelings but they don't give in. In "Taming of the Shrew", Katerine constantly resists him and his charms, which makes it hard for Pertruchio to win. In the beginning of the film, Amanda is seen kicking out her old boyfriend for cheating on her with a younger woman at his job. She pushes him out the door as she says "I will send you, your things". In retaliation to the entire situation, he crudely tells her "You screw up every relationship you've ever been in. It's what you do" in hopes that she will reconsider and take him back, yet his plains are soon short lived once she slams the door in his face. This is her way of saying that she's had it with is stupidity and lies.

Towards the end, Amanda has finally let herself fall in love with Gram, and boldly confesses "you didn't exactly ask me out...but you did you love me. So, I'm thinking I have a date...if you'll have me" and as just as quickly, Gram holds her in his arms, to not only say 'of course' but to let her know he will always be there for her, even if they will be separated by most of the world
Amanda and Katerine, are strong women who have been hurt and because of this, they don't willingly let any one else in as a front to protect themselves. The movies differ greatly, "The Holiday" is really based around two women who swap houses for a vacation, where as the "Taming of the Shrew" is really about Katerine being won by Pertruchio. Although each woman's reasons for keeping away any men were different, they forget them once they find happiness.
